2 lbs of oxtail
1/2 cup of soy sauce
1/4 cup of hoisin sauce
2 tbsp of sesame oil
1 tbsp of fresh ginger, minced
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 chopped onion
2 star anise
1 cinnamon stick
4 cups of beef broth
2 carrots, sliced
2 potatoes, diced
2 sliced green onions, for garnish
1/4 cup of cilantro, for garnish
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the oxtail and brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the oxtail and set aside. In the same pot, add the ginger, garlic, and onion. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and beef broth. Stir well to combine.
- Return the oxtail to the pot. Add the star anise and cinnamon stick.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover and transfer the pot to the preheated oven. Cook for 3 hours, or until the meat is tender and falling off the bone.
- About 30 minutes before the end of the cooking time, add the carrots and potatoes to the pot. Stir to combine.
- Once cooked, remove the pot from the oven. Discard the star anise and cinnamon stick.
